iPod More Popular than Beer
Wednesday, June 7th, 2006 at 3:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
In a recent study conducted by Student Monitor, the iPod ranked as the most popular "in" thing among college undergraduate students, beating out the traditional number one item: beer. 73 percent of the 1,200 students interviewed ranked the iPod above the popular higher education activity and dietary staple.
Forbes reports that in the same study last year, the iPod was named the "in" thing by 59 percent of the students.
Eric Weil, a managing partner at Student Monitor, sees the survey results as a "remarkable sign" of the iPod's popularity.
In the 18 years that Student Monitor has been conducting its "in" survey, beer has always been in the number one spot except for this year and 1997. In 1997, the Internet beat out barley-pop.
