iPod, iPhone Packaging Goes Green
Sunday, June 29th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apple is showing more of its green side with the packaging for its iPod lineup and now for the iPhone 3G, too. Instead of plastic inserts, the new packages will rely on trays made from potato starch, according to setteB.IT (English translation).
The potato starch-based packaging inserts come from PaperFoam, a company that is known for its environmentally friendly packaging products -- and a company that has already been producing some packaging materials for Apple.
The move to potato instead of plastic packaging will lower Apples reliance on petroleum-based products, which may earn the Cupertino-based company a few more points with environmental watchdog groups.
