iPod nano Wins PC World Innovation Award

PC World magazine on Wednesday announced its 2006 PC World Innovation Awards, naming Apple's iPod nano one of 25 products and services that its editors believe "set the standard for ingenuity, creativity and vision."
Of the diminutive MP3 player, the magazine's editors wrote: "Overnight, the svelte iPod Nano irrevocably altered the landscape for portable audio players. Not only did this model take clean design aesthetics to a new level, but it brought us the first high-capacity (4GB) flash-based player -- and one priced within reach of the masses, no less."
However, they lamented, "if only it didn't have that scratch-prone surface."
Creative's Zen Vision was the only other MP3 player given an award, although it was included in the Entertainment category because of its ability to play video, while the nano is an audio-only device. PC World's editors wrote that it "may fit the bill better than any product with an Apple logo on it," noting that its 3.7-inch LCD screen "makes the video iPod's screen look like it shrank in the wash."
PC World will formally present the awards Thursday, Jan. 5 at the invitation-only ShowStoppers Media Reception, which will be held at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas.
