iTMS Offline Ahead of Showtime Event

In preparation for Apple's "It's Showtime" media event, the iTunes Music Store has gone offline. Instead of the usual songs, podcasts and videos, users are presented with the words "It's Showtime," and "The iTunes Store is being updated."

Waiting for Showtime at the iTunes Music Store

Apple is expected to announce a movie download service today at the media event. Rumors say that only Disney and its affiliates will offer movies initially, but Lions Gate indicated that it has signed on as well. Apple may also announce new iPods, including a model optimized for watching movies, and an updated iPod nano.

The media event is scheduled for 10am Pacific time.
