iTunes 8 Users Experiencing Problems with HD TV Downloads
Thursday, September 11th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by John Martellaro
iTunes 8 users have noticed that when they purchase a TV show in HD, the SD version is also downloaded subsequently for use with iPods and iPhones. However, since the file names are the same, the SD version overwrites the HD version in some cases.
Customer "Mabus51" wrote: "I too, am having this problem and have figured out what is causing it. When the standard version of the download starts it overwrites the HD version because they use the same file name." The customer proposed one possible remedy:
"If you pause the standard version so that it doesnt start downloading when the HD version finishes. Then exit iTunes and reopen it. When you start downloading the standard version iTunes renames the standard version with a number 2 at the end so it doesnt overwrite the HD version. You think they would have bug tested this before launching."
The customers who posted were irritated about Apples programmers and that theyve had to contact Apple to get credit and recover the lost TV shows.
Customer "Zbeeb" summed up the thread in two different posts: "Apple... where are my files??!?!?? ... This is a BASIC mistake that QA should have found and the development team should have fixed."
