iPhone 3G Shows Up on China Unicom Web Site
Tuesday, March 24th, 2009 at 2:53 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apple's iPhone 3G appeared on the China Unicom Web site on Tuesday along with a list of other smartphones the cell carrier claims are compatible with its soon to be launched 3G network. So far, the iPhone is showing up only on the company's Shanghai site, and a China Unicom spokesperson said they didn't know why iPhone was appearing on the Web page, according to Network World.

China Unicom hasn't announced that a deal with Apple has been reached, although the company has been negotiating for a deal to carry the iPhone in China. The company also isn't offering 3G service to its subscribers yet, but is planning to begin testing its new 3G network in May.
While iPhone product specifications are available on the China Unicom Web site, pricing information and launch dates aren't. If the company has struck a deal with Apple and plans to begin selling the iPhone soon, customers will likely be limited to slower EDGE wireless data speeds unless they are allowed to participate in the company's 3G trials.
