Microsoft: No Zune Phone at CES

Microsoft shot down rumors that it plans to release a Zune-based cell phone at CES next month to compete with Apple's iPhone. Zune Group Manager Brian Seitz confirmed the rumors are false, but that's not stopping people from speculating that some type of Zune-related phone will make an appearance at the annual electronics conference, according to Gizmodo.
Instead of a Microsoft-branded device, consumers may see phones from other companies that include Pink platform technology -- Microsoft's platform that lets third-party device designers include Zune-like features in their products.
There isn't anything stopping Microsoft from making its own smartphone, but it looks like -- at least for now -- the company doesn't have any plans to release its own iPhone competitor.
