Palm Pre to Launch Ahead of WWDC

Palm's answer to the iPhone, the Palm Pre, is launching on June 6, just two days before Apple's World Wide Developers Conference and the likely announcement of new iPhone and iPhone Software 3.0 releases.
Like the iPhone, the Palm Pre will be priced starting at US$199, but unlike the iPhone, that price requires submitting a mail-in rebate. Pre owners will also be required to agree to a new two-year contract.
The Pre includes a multitouch interface, 8GB of memory, wireless local data syncing, can run multiple applications at the same time, and sports a slide-out keyboard.
Palm and Sprint's launch date isn't likely a coincidence considering Apple is expected to show off iPhone Software 3.0 on June 8. Whether or not the Pre's head start will pay off is up in the air, especially since Apple has months of momentum leading up to the iPhone Software 3.0 release.
