Telecom in Talks with Apple for NZ iPhone Deal
Wednesday, May 20th, 2009 at 10:13 AM - by Jeff Gamet
New Zealand's Telecom is negotiating with Apple in efforts to strike a deal to bring the iPhone to the land next to the land down under. Assuming the companies successfully hammer out the details, Telecom will add the iPhone to its new 3G XT network, according to the New Zealand Herald.
Telecom isn't revealing any details about its negotiations, so there isn't any word yet on what users can expect to pay for an iPhone, or how much monthly subscription plans will cost.
There also isn't any firm information coming out yet about when New Zealanders can expect to get Apple's combination iPod and smartphone into their hands, but it won't happen until after the Telecom's new network rolls out. "We don't have the iPhone at launch," Telecom Retail Chief Executive Alan Gourdie said. "But we are in deep discussion with Apple."
That could mean Telecom customers won't be buying the current iPhone 3G model, but instead will get the next generation model Apple is expected to announced at its World Wide Developers Conference on June 8.
