Vodafone Says 16GB iPhone on the Way Out

Apple's iPhone partner Vodafone has begun telling its retail staff that the 16GB iPhone -- currently the highest capacity model -- has been tagged as End of Life, indicating that the model is being discontinued.
While tagging a product as EOL sometimes notes a device that is simply being discontinued, but in this case it's more likely an indication that Apple is preparing to launch the third generation iPhone. T-Mobile leaked information earlier on Friday that says Apple is building a 32GB version of its combination iPod and smartphone, which lends weight to rumors that Apple is planning on doubling iPhone storage capacity.
Analysts are expecting Apple will announce new iPhone models during its World Wide Developers Conference in early June. If Apple also plans to ship the new models at about the same time, Vodafone's EOL announcement may also be an indicator that the cell carrier is trying to flush its iPhone inventory ahead of the announcement.
