In-Depth Review

TitanGear for nano

GizMac's TitanGear for Nano is a multi-pack of means for carrying around your new iPod nano; included in each package is an armband, rotating belt clip, carabiner, and lanyard. This isn't just one case with four accessories, but rather four separate items, meaning a single TitanGear purchase can take care of four different iPod nanos.

At just under $25, TitanGear is priced about the same as a single quality iPod nano case, making its four-in-one design particularly attractive to the value-minded consumer. Unfortunately, and perhaps not surprisingly, you get what you pay for: each TitanGear component is rather underwhelming.

TitanGear consists of four similarly designed attachments that grip your iPod nano by the side. The name may conjure up images of a robust metal design, but there's nothing special going on here, just small pieces of black plastic with plastic inserts to fit the iPod nano's shape (one of which was exceedingly hard to slide the nano into). Each attachment serves its purpose, but it does so with only the minimum attention to style.

The belt clip is arguably the most practical of the bunch, as the TitanGear attachments provide no actual protection for your iPod nano, meaning a free swinging iPod nano attached with the carabiner or lanyard could sustain inadvertent damage. The armband is similarly effective but nothing to write home about; the velcro elastic strap is less comfortable and looks cheaper than most competitors. GizMac does include a surprisingly high-quality lanyard as part of the TitanGear, if carrying your music around your neck suits your style (we're not big fans of this fashion, but others are).

The Bottom Line

On paper, the TitanGear for Nano sounds appealing with its four attachments, but in reality its a collection of rather cheap looking plastic bits. Granted, TitanGear allows four separate iPod nanos to be carried outside of pockets, but unless you are on a budget (and can find three friends to split the cost), your money is better spent on a single quality case, many of which these days include extras like a belt clip, lanyard, or armband with them.
