In-Depth Review
Speck SeeThru case for iPod nano 4G
Friday, December 19th, 2008 at 1:01 PM - by Bob LeVitus
The Speck SeeThru is a unique, thoughtfully designed hard shell case for iPod nano 4G.
The case is made out of a very hard plastic that resists impact quite well and includes a built-in clear hard plastic screen protector, a nice touch. On each side is a rubberized rail for improved grippiness.
There's also a removable rubberized earphone cord organizer that doubles as a table top stand as shown in the following images:
To use it, just pop off the top of the case as shown below and insert your iPod.
So far so good... now here are a couple of possible drawbacks. For one, I have very short fingernails which made the hold switch difficult for me to use. The hard plastic isn't that thick, but it's thick enough that I had struggle every time I needed to flick the hold switch. Along those same lines, while the plastic isn't really very thick, it's just thick enough on the bottom to impede both docking in some devices and inserting the plug of certain third-party earphones. To be fair, the case doesn't affect the stock Apple USB cable or earbuds, but it does affect a good number of third-party docks and earphones.
Finally, the SeeThru is available in six colors: Garnet Red, Emerald Green, Diamond Clear, Amethyst Purple (all shown above), plus Quartz Pink and Obsidian Black.
The Bottom Line
All things considered I liked this case pretty well. (If I had longer fingernails, I'd have liked it even better.) It protects your iPod very nicely and I especially liked the unique rubber removable earphone cord organizer/stand. Furthermore, it was easy enough to insert and remove the iPod from the case that even the stuff I just griped about wasn't too terribly bothersome.
Just The Facts
Pros:
Good protection, cool removable earphone cord organizer/stand.
Cons:
Can be difficult to use hold switch or certain third party docks and earphones.
