    • Goldfrapp
    • On their latest CD, Supernature, Goldfrapp has put together a successful mix of 1980-era New Romanticism, German cabaret, and T. Rex glam that leaves you riveted even through the album's lulls. It's a great amalgam that sounds current without sounding at all dated.

‘Bombshell Magic’ Anticipated for Apple’s Wed. Media Event

Just a few weeks after Apple unveiled the iPod nano, the company is set to launch another new product on Wednesday, September 12th, 2005, as reported by The Mac Observer. The Internet is once again abuzz, thanks to the invitation which merely said "One more thing..." That has been interpreted as a reference to the end of CEO Steve Jobs' keynote speeches, when he usually takes the wraps off a major new product.

San Jose Mercury News writer Therese Poletti rounds up the latest speculation in an article covering what she calls Apple's "bombshell magic." Jupiter Research analyst Michael Gartenberg told her: "People are parsing the invitation the same way they're searching [the TV show] 'Lost' for new meanings and nuance."

Rick Doherty, an analyst at Envisioneering, told Ms. Poletti: "We do know that Apple has been in contact with video rights management organizations." But there are "five people besides Jobs who know" what Apple has planned for tomorrow, he said.

Rumors abound that Apple's main announcement will involve a video-capable iPod, but Mr. Jobs has brushed off that idea for a couple years, noting that consumers don't want to watch movies on such small devices. However, consultant Tim Bajarin speculated to Ms. Poletti that such a player could be "optimized for something like music videos," which Apple did recently add to the iTunes Music Store.

Other speculation includes the debut of a pink iPod nano Madonna Special Edition, along the lines of the U2 Special Edition iPod, as well as the introduction of a black full-size iPod, given the popularity of the black iPod nano. No matter what's introduced less than 24 hours from now, it will surely set off a new series of speculative articles and opinion pieces.
