China Mobile iPhone 3G Deal Inching Closer to Reality

Apple and China Mobile are closer to striking a deal to bring the iPhone 3G to China. The two companies are still negotiating, but have not yet finalized an agreement, according to Network World.

China Mobile CEO Wang Jianzhou commented "Steve Jobs and I hope the iPhone will enter China as soon as possible. We are discussing this issue but we do not have an agreement."

One sticking point the companies were dealing with last year was Apple’s insistence on taking a cut of cell carrier iPhone revenue, which isn’t likely an issue now that Apple appears to have dropped that business model in favor of subsidized handheld prices. Neither company, however, is stating what the negotiation issues they are working out might be.

Apple’s iPhone 3G is available in over 40 countries, and the Cupertino-based company plans on selling the combination iPod and smartphone in about 70 countries by the end of 2008.
