Most Countries Ban Cell Phones in Cars - U.S. Behind

The vast majority of countries in the world ban the use of cell phones while driving unless a hands-free device is used. In contrast, only a handful of states in the U.S. ban their use in the car.
Cellular-news has posted a list of countries and U.S. states that ban cell phone use while driving and noted pending or failed legislation. The list for U.S. states is at bottom of the page.
As spring approaches and more people are driving on their vacations, this list list might be handy reference for iPhone users to keep in the glove box. The list was last updated in January, 2008.
