Telekom Kenya Announces iPhone 3G Pricing
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 at 8:38 AM - by Jeff Gamet
It appears that Telekom Kenya is a step closer to launching Apple's iPhone 3G now that it has revealed how much it will charge for the combination iPod and smartphone. The company had hoped for a Kenya iPhone rollout in September, but missed its goal and is still working to put together its iPhone 3G launch.
Telekom Kenya plans to sell the iPhone 3G to post-paid subscribers for 50,400 Kenyan shillings (about US$655.02) for the 8GB model and 59,200 Kenyan shillings (about $769.62) for the 16GB model. Pre-paid subscribers get a break at 33,900 Kenyan shillings (about $440.57) for the 8GB model, and 42,700 Kenyan shillings (about $555.20) for the 16GB model.
The company also revealed that it will only sell locked versions of the devices, tying it to its own cell service network, just like AT&T has done in the United States.
An official launch date hasn't been released yet, but now that pricing information is available, odds are Kenyans will be able to get their hands on an iPhone soon.
