Amazon MP3 Preps for International Rollout

Amazon’s iTunes Store competitor, Amazon MP3, will be growing beyond the U.S. in 2008. The online retailer plans on moving beyond the U.S. borders this year, but didn’t state when the rollout will begin, or how many countries it will get the service.

Amazon launched its music download service in 2007 with the claim that it offers the largest selection of music online without copy protection. In comparison, only EMI offers DRM-free songs through the iTunes Store.

Songs purchased at Amazon MP3 are playable on any MP3-compatible music device, including Apple’s iPod product line. Unlike the iTunes Store, however, Amazon MP3 offers variable song pricing instead of the flat US$0.99 per track that Apple charges.
