Audio-Technica Announces Noise Cancelling In-Ear Headphones
Tuesday, January 8th, 2008 at 3:00 PM - by Bryan Chaffin
LAS VEGAS -- Audio-Technica announced this week at CES ATH-ANC3 QuietPoint noise cancelling in-ear headphones (earphones). The company claims that the ATH-ANC3 eliminates 85% of outside noise across a wide frequency range.
The earphones have an On/Off switch for the noise cancelling feature, as well as a mute button intended for those on an airplane or train that might need to listen to an announcement, or to some other person. The noise cancelling can also be used without necessarily listening to music for those just wanting to shut out outside noises.
The ATH-ANC3 is supplied with a hard carrying case, an adjustable cable and additional extension cable, an airline adapter for connection to in-flight entertainment systems, a clothing clip, and an AAA battery. The package also includes three sizes of ear tips (small, medium and large).
The company said the ATH-ANC3 will be available in the Spring of 2008 for US$169.95. The units will be offered in either black or white.
A spokesperson on hand for the event demonstrated the device, and while we werent able to test the 85% noise cancelling claim, the units sounded very good in the middle of a busy, loud CES showroom floor. iPodObserver.com will be putting the units through a rated review later in the year.
