O2 Taking iPhone 3G Pre-orders

O2 is making it easier for its current iPhone customers to upgrade to the iPhone 3G with a pre-oder offer that began on Monday. The offer lets U.K. iPhone customers order their upgrade iPhone now and receive it via courier on July 11, letting them avoid waiting in line.

Current 8GB iPhone owners can upgrade to the iPhone 3G for free if they are currently under £45 and £75 a month contracts, or £99 for £30 and £35 a month contracts. The 16GB model is free for users with at least a £45 a month contract, or £159 for customers with £30 and £35 a month contracts.

U.K. customers that pre-order their iPhone 3G won’t have to take it into a store for activation. Instead, they can connect their to their computer and activate the handheld through iTunes, just like the current iPhone.

The upgrade offer pricing is available until October 11, but pre-orders are available only through July 10.
