Phillip Swann, the founder of TVPredictions and an experienced, connected observer of the TV industry, has published his 9th in a series of TV industry predictions for 2008: Apple will valiantly try to save Apple TV with some high definition offerings, but the product will ultimately fail and will be cancelled in 2008.
Mr. Swann cited the fact that the device was designed to generate HD output at 720p/24 but no HD content is currently available. The content that is available looks inferior. In addition, customers must pay US$300 for the the box, a high barrier to entry in a field crowded with expensive boxes fighting for a place under the customers HDTV.

Apple has only sold about 400,000 of the boxes since it was introduced in the spring of 2007, according to the industry observer. Despite Apples efforts to revive the box in 2008, Mr. Swann said that Americans are suffering from "set top fatigue" and Apples hobby will be dropped.
