Who’s Listening to Your Podcast?

Some podcasts have thousands of subscribers, some only have one or two. The average, it seems, is 35. According to MarketWatch, Feedburner came to that number based on the 47,337 podcasts it manages.
Feedburner is a service that manages downloads and statistics for podcasts and RSS feeds.
Rick Klau, Feedburner’s vice president for business development, noted that 101 Uses for Baby Wipes has more than 20,000 subscribers, NPR’s On the Media has 16,000, and Leo LaPorte’s This Week in Tech boasts about 260,000 subscribers.
High subscriber numbers alone, however, don’t always indicate a successful podcast. Currently, there is no way to track who listens to a podcast once it has been downloaded, and many listeners download podcasts without subscribing.
