AT&T: Back to Three iPhone Limit Per Customer
Thursday, May 15th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by John Martellaro
AT&T on Wednesday announced that they were restricting iPhone purchases to one per customer. A re-evaluation of their inventory has led them to reverse that decision and go back to the previous limit of three iPhones per customer.
TMO spoke with AT&T spokesperson Mark Siegel who said that on Wednesday, they were looking at their policy of three iPhones per customer and inventory levels. Wanting to make sure everyone had an opportunity to buy an iPhone, they decided to limit the purchases to one iPhone per customer.
However, on Thursday, according to Mr. Siegel, a re-evaluation of inventory led them to realize that the restriction is unnecessary after all.
"We have sufficient inventory, and we continue to have them [iPhone stock] in our stores," Mr. Siegel said.
Shortages of the iPhone have appeared in many places, and Apple is no longer taking on-line orders. The shortages have been ascribed to Apples underestimation of demand after the holidays and a subsequent decision to let inventory run out prior to the introduction of the iPhone 3G. However, TMOs Stephen Swift reported that there was no shortage of iPhones at the Boston Bolyston Street store grand opening on Thursday.
