Apple Getting Into iPod Games?
Monday, May 29th, 2006 at 3:00 PM - by Brad Cook
GameSpot reported this past weekend that a tech-sector recruiter with "credentials beyond reproach" told them that a games software engineer he made a job offer to turned it down because he was the target of aggressive recruitment by Apple.
The engineer told the recruiter that Mike Lampell, who used to be a technical director at LucasArts, is heading up a top-secret group within Apple's iTunes department. They are looking for "C/C++ coders with a 'gaming background,'" although the only current open job at Apple with the word "game" in the title is the replacement for a recently-departed Consumer & Games Partnership Manager. Apple wouldn't explain the exact nature of the job until he was hired and signed a non-disclosure agreement, the engineer said.
GameSpot was unable to get confirmation of Mr. Lampell's employment at Apple, which is notoriously tight-lipped about even the most mundane topics.
