Apple, Napster Drop Ads on P2P Web Sites

After facing withering criticism from the UK record industry, Apple and Napster have withdrawn ads they were running on the Web sites for P2P (peer-to-peer) file-sharing software. Reporter Simon Aughton quoted the industry's director of communications as describing the ads as a "sick joke."
"It is hugely ironic that iTunes and Napster, two companies which have done so much to encourage legal downloading, have been caught up in these sites," he told Mr. Aughton, who was writing for the British publication PC Pro. The reporter said that Apple and Napster claimed the ads had been placed without their knowledge by agencies.
