Apple Releases iTunes 7.7 with App Store Support
Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apple released iTunes 7.7 on Thursday. The update for the music and video organization and playback app adds support for Apples new third-party iPhone and iPod touch application distribution system dubbed the App Store.
iTunes 7.7 is an important step in the iPhone 3G rollout set to begin on July 11. New iPhone buyers will need the update for compatibility with Apples second generation iPod and smartphone.
The new version also added support for the previously rumored Remote application that lets users control iTunes over a local network from their iPhone or iPod touch, and includes support for iPhone and iPod touch Software 2.0.
iTunes 7.7 is free and available via Apples Software Update application, or as a download at the iTunes Web site.
