- Goldfrapp
On their latest CD, Supernature, Goldfrapp has put together a successful mix of 1980-era New Romanticism, German cabaret, and T. Rex glam that leaves you riveted even through the album's lulls. It's a great amalgam that sounds current without sounding at all dated.

At first, Ray LaMontagne might strike you as just another breathy-voiced knockoff of folk/rock guitarists like John Mayer and Jack Johnson. But he's actually got a better voice than either, he tell

Bjork Bjlog, Eli’s Joke, The Bicyclist and More
Thursday, May 29th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Vern Seward
Fans of the scandinavian siren, Björk, know how crazy eccentric she can be.
I dont count my self a fan of her music, her philosophies, or her social or political views, but she is kinda hot in a pixie-cum-Bellevue sort of way. What I do like about her is her creativity. Her music, videos, and stage presence are always surprising, inventive, quirky, and fun (and sometimes disturbing).
Of course, anyone that far off center is bound to attract the attention of comedians, or, in the case of the podcast I found on the iTunes Store, comedian wannabe.
Björk Bjlög is an attempt at lampooning Björk. If you dont know anything about Björk then you might not catch what passes for subtle humor in the video blog. If you do know something about Björk then you might not appreciate what passes for subtle humor in the blog.
If, on the other hand, you feel confident enough to pronounce Björks name in the presences of others, but cant name one of her tunes then you might find Björk Bjlög funny.
There are only two episodes so far. I watched both and I thought they were amusing enough to tell you about. You should know that the person in the video isnt Björk, but she aint bad looking. She could pass for Björks sister, or maybe a Bellevue roommate. You decide.
You can grab both episodes of Björk Bjlög at the iTunes Store.
If you think watching a Björk impersonator complain about her fictitious love life is funny then youll probably think Eli The Accountants Dirty Jokes are bona-fided knee slappers.
The animation is basic, but effective and the jokes are OK, not terribly funny, but I dont believe thats the point of the video.
The voice of Eli is the kicker here, the guy does sound like an old Jewish accountant from New York, Queens maybe. The voice is what makes these short episodes work.
These are dirty jokes, mind you. There isnt a lot of foul language, but there is plenty of explicit sexual reference with visual aids. So if you dont want to hear, "Daddy, what are those two cartoon people doing?" I suggest you keep Elis Dirty Jokes out of ear and eye shot of your kids.
But YOU should watch them. Pretty funny stuff.
Rounding out the my look at odd podcasts this week is The Bicyclist.
Protagonist, Conrad Miller, moves to sunny Portland Oregon and learns to adapt. The series is a great way to see Portland up close and personal, and Conrad reminds me a bit of Kal Penn of Harold and Kumar Goes to White Castle fame.
The Bicyclist is also amusing. I didnt get a belly laugh, but watching a few episodes did induce some knowing smiles, maybe even a snicker. You folks in the Great Wet Northwest will probably like this more than most, but I think its a good watch for all.
Thats going to do it for this week.
One last thing: If youre a book fan and you like Dean Koontz then youve likely read all of Koontzs Odd Thomas books.
I mention Odd Thomas because Im doing quirky this week and Odd Thomas is about as quirky as they get.
Ive listened to the audiobooks of the first two novels in the series (Odd Thomas and Forever Odd) and Ive read all three (Brother Odd is the third book) and I think its a very good series. Now theres a forth book in the Odd series, Odd Hours. I havent read it yet, but its on my list.
To those of you who havent been introduced to Odd Thomas may I suggest that you either pick up the audiobook or print version of the first book. Its pretty good reading. The audiobook of Odd Thomas is available at the iTunes Store.
