GAT Debuts ThunderTech Line With $800 iPod Vacuum Tube Amplifier, More
Thursday, January 5th, 2006 at 2:00 PM - by Brad Cook
LAS VEGAS -- Global American Technologies (GAT) used this week's Consumer Electronics Show to debut its new line of ThunderTech products, which includes a US$800 three-piece vacuum tube amplifier for the iPod. So new that the company forbade picture-taking, the new amplifier is available in walnut or glossy black and is compatible with all dock-connector iPods, as well as the iPod shuffle. It produces 30 watts of power through its pair of stereo speakers.
GAT also showed off its new ThunderDock 602 Universal Docking Station, which also accommodates all dock-connector iPods and includes an adapter for the iPod shuffle. The $79.99 dual-speaker system puts out 12 watts of power and includes a USB port for connecting an iPod to a computer. It charges the iPod as well as any device connected via USB.
In addition, GAT introduced its ThunderEyes sunglasses, which include a 128MB, 256MB, 512MB or 1GB MP3 player, with prices starting at $129.99. They feature a rechargeable battery, integrated earbuds and Bluetooth and USB 2.0 connectivity, as well as a voice recorder. They're Mac and PC compatible.
Finally, GAT used CES to announce an agreement with Audiovox Corp. Under its partner's brand, GAT will design, engineer, manufacture and sell accessories for iPod as well as other MP3 players.
