Orange Makes Statement on iPhone Launch, Apple Stalls

An Apple spokesman, in an e-mail to the Thomson Financial News, noted that Apple had not announced any other country launch dates in Europe, according to Fortune/CNNMoney on Wednesday. That was in spite of the fact that earlier on Wednesday, France Telecom said that the launch will take place in November.
In the e-mail, an Apple Europe spokesman said that, "we have not announced any other country launch dates in Europe." [Besides UK and Germany.]
Earlier on Wednesday Orange executive Didier Lombard said, according to the report, that his company had signed a contract with Apple and that the launch would happen "during November." Mr. Lombard had made the same statement back on September 20th.
To date, Apple has not made any official announcements about distribution in France, and the Apple e-mail which pointed that out came at the end of some protracted negotiations in which the two companies were at odds over the terms of the deal. Mr. Lombard, on a recent trip, explained that it is possible that Apple was unhappy because he had made the announcement before Apple was ready.
