    • Amon Tobin
    • The genius is in the beats. Amon Tobin creates fantastic, groovy beats behind beats. "Supermodified" rolls through your expectations of breakbeat music, and turns them up a bit. It's a mellow album, p

iTunes Music Review - Abnormal Anonymous

  • Abnormal Anonymous

    • 8 out of 5
    • Congo Norvell
    • Reviewed by Dane Blanchard
    • Buy this album from Amazon.com
    • Buy this album from iTunes Music Store
    • Very few albums manage to capture snapshots of a quality of life in the manner that Congo Norvell's sophomore record, "Abnormals Anonymous," does.

Comparisons to the Velvet Underground are obvious, with a Lou Reed/Nico dynamic between principals Kid Congo Powers (ex-Bad Seeds and Cramps) and chanteuse Sally Norvell, and a vivid narrative depiction of a gritty, Victor Hugo-esque Alphabet City world of sex, drugs, and rock n roll. As a raw experience, the songs transition from roaring to wailing through extremely well-executed songwriting and production.

For anyone who has even the slightest inkling of enjoyment of the pre-punk hard scene or the newer, watered down stuff, Congo Norvell is the perfect place to stop and listen.
