Sumsung Reveals Details on HD Dual Format Player

At the IFA Conference in Berlin this week, Samsung revealed a few more details of its dual format, Blu-ray and HD DVD player, the BD-UP5000.

The player will play both HD disc formats at either 24 fps for movies or 60 fps, depending on the disc content. It includes 1080p output, HDMI 1.3 video out, and 7.1 channel audio that supports Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and (the competing) DTS HD.

Shipment is expected in Europe before Christmas, but the price has not yet been announced, although some expect it to be about €400. No announcement about U.S. availability was provided.
