Gameloft Confirms Oregon Trail for the iPhone, Available February 28th or March 1st [Update]

Oregon Trail may finally be coming to the iPhone, based on screen shots of the game that began circulating this week. The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday that a game company called Gamesoft has been developing a version of the venerable game for the iPhone, news that iPodObserver.com was able to confirm.
Oregon Trial rose to fame and became a video game icon in the 1980s and 1990s when many schools featured the title as "edutainment." In the game, players guide a group of nomads to travel on the Oregon Trail in hopes of finding salvation -- as well as learning a bit of history and geography and continuously hunting for food in the process.
Update: Annette Chao, PR director for Gameloft, has confirmed that the company is developing Oregon Trail for the iPhone. Ms. Chao stated that more information will be available on February 16th, but that the game will reach a gold master version on February 27th and should be on the App Store come February 28th or March 1st.
