iPhone, iPod touch Hit with New Year’s Date Glitch
Tuesday, January 1st, 2008 at 3:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apples iPhone and iPod touch suffered from a minor data roll-over glitch during the transition from 2007 to 2008. Many users found that the handhelds displayed the wrong year in World Clock for international cities until their home time shifted into 2008.
One poster in Apples online forums commented "I have world clocks configured to show Tokyo which has already brought in the new year, but the date still says that it is 07/12/31 and all of my other cities that have not hit 2008 say Today for the date."
Another forum participant added "Now Europe is in 2008, this bug is manifesting itself in reverse: US cities are being displayed with a date of 08/01/01, despite still being in 2007. Europe and Australian cities are listed as Today."
The ManOfWy blog also managed to snap a photo of an iPhone displaying the incorrect dates.

It appears that the date issues cropped up only during the time period when there were some time zones in 2007 and others in 2008. Once every time zone transitioned into the new year, World Clock cities began displaying the correct date once again.
Although it is a seemingly harmless bug because dates displayed correctly again once every time zone was in 2008, the problem could have caused problems for users that rely on the iPhone and iPod touch built-in alarms. Presumably Apple will address the bug before 2009.
