iHome Announces Headphones That Double as External Speakers

iHome announced Tuesday the release of the iHMP5 2-in-1 Stereo Speaker/Headphone System, headphones with a built-in preamp that allows them to be used as standalone, external speakers.

The device has a lightweight, adjustable headband, with 360-degree padding around the ear cups. The pre-amp is built into the casing of the headphones and is battery powered for portability.

The iHMP5 comes in three colors - black, red, and purple - and is available immediately for US$59.99.

That’s nothing new. When I ride the subway, there’s always someone doubling their headphones as external speakers, so that the entire train car might enjoy their funky beats.
