New 16GB iPhone 3G May Be On the Way

Apple may be preparing to roll out an updated version of its 16GB iPhone 3G. An image showing a new case back seems to back up rumors that an iPhone update is on the way thanks to its model number, A1303, which previously hasn't appeared on any iPhone model.

The new iPhone case back appears to shed its glossy appearance for a matte black look, and also sports what may be etched markings which indicates the plastic used in the current iPhone 3G model may be dumped in favor of a metal back -- much like the first generation iPhone.

Our sources have previously been reliable, but like with any leaked image, take this one with an appropriately dosed grain of salt.

comparing to my current iphone 3g 16gb.. that text is significantly larger, therefore i’m suspecting a smaller device. is this the nano?!

Well I looked closeley at the picture and I think, as much as I wish it wasn’t, it is a fake. The reasons being:
1. The O and E of iPhone are flat at the bottom as though they were cut and pasted.
2. Around all the “Designed by Apple in Califronia” stuff, there is a discoloration between the actuall back case and the edge of the wording.
3. Why is the word iPhone so bright compared to the other wording and the back of the case?

I wish it were true, really true because I want to get a new iPhone. But I’m jsut not seeing it. frown

The GB and Model number are also flip flopped.
iPhone is totally over exposed the the rest of the printing isnt.
As an art dealer this reeks of fakeness.

How many times has everyone called bull shit on images of things on the web, Remember the new ipod nano, the iPhone 3G, the unibody macbook. No one ever believes these photos when they first appear on the web, besides even if they are only mock ups by some fanboy, they probably had reason to do what they did, for example the iPhone 3G was ‘leaked’ about 2-3 months before its release as photoshop fakes, but they looked damn similar to the real device when it emerged.
One other thing, the timing of this is perfect. If a new iPhone is to come out it will probably be a june release, exactly 12 montths after the 3G, so this might be a sample device sent to the FCC for testing, along with the fact that new devices have been spotted on the web reporting themselves with a new model number (iphone2,0).

This is an obvious fake. A quick search of the fcc.gov site shows that the newest regulatory filing from Apple is late 2007 and the FCC ID number does not even use the correct format. Back to your Photoshop, fanboy!
