SoftBank Announces External Japanese TV Tuner for iPhone 3G
Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Bryan Chaffin
SoftBank has announced 1-Seg a combination external battery and external TV tuner for iPhone 3G. The device, which has only been announced for the Japanese market, will allow users to watch HD TV programming over the airwaves, and provide up to three hours of TV watching time at the same time.
The battery/tuner is smaller than the iPhone 3G (5 x 8.5 x 1.6 cm), and connects to the phone via the dock port. It includes an antennae for reception, and LEDs as indicator lights. The TV tuner works in conjunction with an app that will be provided through Apples App Store.
Softbank said that it will recharge in two hours from a wall charger, or in four hours if charged through your computers USB port.
The information for this story came from the Italian site, SetteB.IT. According to SetteB.iT, the device will be available by the end of 2008, and pricing has not been announced.
In other news from Japan, a Japanese man has launched an effort to obtain the legal right to marry a cartoon. Seriously.
