iPhone Update 1.1.1 MIA
Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
While some iPhone users have experienced problems after installing the 1.1.1 firmware update, others are finding that the update isnt available at all. It appears that as of Tuesday night iTunes was reporting iPhone software 1.0.2 as the most recent version -- indicating that Apple has either pulled the update, or iTunes is falsely reporting the current iPhone software version.
Apple has been receiving criticism ever since the iPhone software 1.1.1 update was released because it disables any third party applications users might have installed. The update also rendered iPhones that had been unlocked to work with any cell carrier, along with some unaltered units, unusable.
If the 1.1.1 firmware update was intentionally pulled, that could be an indication that the new software holds even more problems for users and Apple. The change in the available updates could also be nothing more than a transient Apple server-related issue erroneously reporting the wrong software version number.
Every iPhone TMO could check Wednesday morning had already been updated to software version 1.1.1, so iTunes is reporting the newest update as current. Let us know what software version iTunes tells you is the most current.
