Autobytel: Two-Thirds of iPod Owners Are Frustrated By Using Devices in Cars
Sunday, October 23rd, 2005 at 3:00 PM - by Brad Cook
Autobytel.com on Monday announced the results of an online survey that shows that two-thirds of iPod owners have difficulty using their MP3 players in their cars. The company noted that its latest reports show that 12 times more car models feature MP3 player connections in 2005 compared to 2003, with 598 new models currently on the market, but those with older vehicles are having trouble playing music in them.
A third of the iPod owners who took Autobytel's survey said they had been "very successful" at using their iPods in their cars, while 31% couldn't do so at all and 36% had some success but were unsatisfied with the results. In summary, 37% of respondents rated the experience as "frustrating -- iPods are not easy to install or use in cars."
Four percent of those who responded said that their primary vehicle has a built-in MP3 player connection, while 75% of everyone who took the survey felt that all new cars should come with such a feature and 78% of them said they would pay extra for it.
Autobytel has launched an iPod center that helps visitors to the site learn how to install various types of iPod playback adapters in their cars, as well as figure out which one is right for them. The company also plans to launch its CarTV content in an iPod video-compatible format.
